Hypno dad story

Hi Kate

Before the course, pregnancy and labour was a bit of a mystery and i wasn’t particularly engaged in the pregnancy, thinking it wasn’t my role. What i really enjoyed about the hypnobirthing course was that it gave me a way to be active and participate in the birth and support Kayla. I particularly found useful the BRAIN technique, so that i could make decisions for Kayla and I, when Kayla wasn’t able to. I also found the breathing techniques helpful, as they helped me to keep Kayla calm, and to be helpful in the process. There were a couple of painful procedures that Kayla had to have and rather than sit there and just watch her in pain, i was able to help her manage it, and to help keep her calm. We ended up having to have a c-section, which neither of us wanted, and the techniques that we learnt, even though we didn’t get to use them in labour, were still helpful for us. We found the experience of a c-section upsetting and overwhelming, and we felt like we had no control. The hypnobirthing techniques helped us to stay grounded and to just focus on getting our baby out safely. The techniques were really simple to use, and although i felt silly practicing them with her at first, they ended up just being something that we did and were incredibly helpful when we needed them. You were really supportive in teaching us the techniques and gave us all the time we needed to get our head around them. Thanks so much for all your help.

Cheers, Dan and Kayla (and Addie!)
